FACT (Fighting AIDS Continuously Together) currently allows for 15 board members as the board of directors.  We would like to welcome our most recent board members, The Reverend Michael Ruk and John F. Colton. Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is a new HIV prevention method in which people who do not have HIV infection take a pill daily to reduce their risk of becoming infected. The pill, called Truvada®, contains two of the many medications that can be used to treat people who already have HIV. These medications prevent HIV from making copies of itself and turning into an infection that’s spread throughout your body.  In this way PrEP medicines can help keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection. NHAS Update HHS has released the annual progress report, 2012 HHS National HIV/AIDS Strategy Report. It highlights actions taken by HHS operating divisions and offices during 2012-from research, regulation, and policy making to prevention services, training, public awareness, and grant making-that have helped make progress toward the Strategy’s goals.  The Kaiser Family Foundation has produced a new consumer web portal to help people living with HIV navigate the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Specifically designed to address the needs of people with HIV, the Obamacare & You portal, funded by Gilead Sciences, Inc., is presented as part of Greater Than AIDS, a leading national public information initiative developed by the Kaiser Family Foundation together with the Black AIDS Institute.  Obamacare & You: HIV/AIDS

On Wednesday, November 13, Bucks County Community College (Newtown Campus~Gallagher Room) is hosting a Sexual Health Conference.  This conference and discussion is open to everyone to attend and begins at 8:00 am and continues through 2:30 pm (see schedule below). Sponsored by the Open Door Club and presented by BC/PUSH. Various presentations and discussions will be offered by Planned Parenthood Keystone, NOVA, Family Service Association of Bucks County and others.

On October 6th, FACT Bucks County is pleased to announce that our 2013 AIDS Walk has raised over $60,000.00. It’s always a team effort at FACT and our generous sponsors (see list below) and walk participants have once again made this Walk another successful event….. Speaking of teams, we had three team award winners this year; St. Philip’s Episcopal Church came in at #1 with over $3,600.00; The Solebury School came in at #2 with over $2,000.00; and Team Rainbow brought in over $1,300.00.  Our individual participants also were big winners; Al Troglio was the first place award winner and he …

Tony Award winner Alan Cumming entertained and captivated a standing-room-only audience at Bucks County Cabaret on October 19, 2013, while raising over $165K for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.Taking center stage at the historic Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, PA, Cumming proudly channeled an eclectic mix of the best women of music – from Shirley Bassey to Kristen Chenoweth, from Elaine Stritch to Lady Gaga. He peppered the evening with captivating inside-show-business stories about Liza Minnelli and Ann Miller, fascinating, behind-the-scenes tales of his years on stage and screen, and his successful quest to become a naturalized American citizen.  Read more …
