Planned Parenthood Keystone Receives funds from FACT Bucks County for Rapid HIV Testing Program and Education

  Planned Parenthood Keystone received a grant at the October (2013) board meeting of FACT Bucks County.  There are many programs that Planned Parenthood has in place and one of them is Rapid HIV Testing and FACT has given them this grant for the continuation and expansion of this program.  The Centers for Disease Control statistics show that 1 out of 5 Americans positive for HIV are unaware of their status.  31% of people tested “conventionally” never return for their results.  Rapid HIV Testing gives results in about 20 minutes allowing for improved access and knowledge of the results.  The outcome …

New medical device extremely effective at preventing HIV in women

It’s often said that the HIV/AIDS epidemic has a woman’s face. The proportion of women infected with HIV has been on the rise for a decade; in sub-Saharan Africa, women constitute 60 percent of people living with disease. New target to fight HIV infection identified

  A mutant of an immune cell protein called ADAP (adhesion and degranulation-promoting adaptor protein) is able to block infection by HIV-1 (human immunodeficiency virus 1), new University of Cambridge research reveals. FACT Grants Funds to HiTOPS

HiTOPS was established in 1987 as a youth-focused healthcare and education center to address concerns for the HIV epidemic and requests for reproductive healthcare. Over HiTOPS 25 year history, programs and services have expanded to address the changing health needs of young people, ages 11 to 26, and to serve the increasing number of requests for services throughout the state.
