FACT Raises over $10K at Jingle Bell Bingo 2013
We want to take this time to thank our Jingle Bell Bingo Committee, Sponsors, Bingo Players, Volunteers, and Entertainers for allowing FACT to be able to raise over $10,000.00 to assist people living with HIV-AIDS in Bucks, Hunterdon and Mercer Counties. A healthy diet plays a vital role in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS
The British Dietetic Association (BDA) is fully supporting World AIDS Day (01 December 2013), by highlighting the vital importance of good nutrition for those living with HIV and AIDS. The BDA also has a specialist group working in this field called Dietitians in HIV and AIDS (DHIVA). The BDA, founded in 1936, is the professional association for dietitians in the United Kingdom. Aggressive new HIV strain leads to AIDS more quickly
New research from Lund University in Sweden suggests that a new aggressive strain of HIV develops more rapidly into AIDS than other current strains. From first infection with HIV to developing AIDS can be as short as 5 years – the shortest known for HIV-1 types – say the researchers. Promising new drug target: key found to restoring ‘exhausted’ HIV-fighting immune cells
Researchers have identified a protein that causes loss of function in immune cells combatting HIV. The scientists report in a paper appearing online in the Journal of Clinical Investigation that the protein, Sprouty-2, is a promising target for future HIV drug development, since disabling it could help restore the cells’ ability to combat the virus that causes AIDS. HIV cure may lie in radioimmunotherapy
A new study suggests targeting HIV with radioimmunotherapy could eradicate HIV from infected cells. If given in conjunction with highly active antiretroviral therapy, it may form the basis of a cure. Although highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) kills human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the bloodstream, it does not completely eliminate it from the body because the virus can linger in infected cells and replicate.
